چکیده
The spinal cord may be injured directly by the weapon or by indriven bony fragments. The damage to the cord may be either direct or indirect due to impaired arterial supply or venous drainage with resulting hemorrhage or edema.[1,5] The indriven fragment of the weapon may cause a foreign body granulomatous reaction[3] or may act as a micro-traumatizing agent[6] and cause delayed neurological damage. CSF leaks occur in 4 to 6% of the cases and in most instances it is transient. Approximately one-third of the patients present with a complete transaction of the cord and the remaining patients present with partial cord injury with varying forms of Brown-Sequard syndrome. [6] Our patient had a pure motor deÞ cit.

Spontaneous Resolution of Symptomatic Thoracic Spine Calcified Disc Herniation: A Case Report and Literature Review
Calcification of intervertebral disc (IVD) is an uncommon but well-defined clinical syndrome in children. Despite its benign nature, occasionally, calcified nucleus pulposus can herniate into the spinal canal. We report an interesting case of calcified disc herniation in the thoracic spine. Although it resulted in cord compression and syrinx formation, it well responded to conservative manageme...
متن کاملSpinal cord herniation with characteristic bone change: a case report
Spinal cord herniation (SCH) is a rare disease characterized by herniation of the thoracic spinal cord through an anterior dural defect, presenting with progressive myelopathy. A case of a 69-year-old woman who presented with Brown-Sequard syndrome and a bone defect, in which an osteophyte created a hemisphere-like cavity with spinal cord herniation, is presented. The strangled spinal cord was ...
متن کاملSpontaneous thoracic spinal cord herniation through an anterior dural defect.
A 44-year-old woman was examined for progressive left lower extremity weakness and spasticity. Thoracic spine MR imaging and CT myelography showed a ventral dural defect at T7-T8 with an extradural subarachnoid fluid collection and extradural herniation of the spinal cord. Intraoperative sonography confirmed the appropriate level for dural entry and the finding of spinal cord herniation. After ...
متن کاملThe pathophysiology, classification, treatment, and prognosis of a spontaneous thoracic spinal cord herniation: A case study with literature review
BACKGROUND Spinal cord herniation was first described in 1974. It generally occurs in middle-aged adults in the thoracic spine. Symptoms typically include back pain and progressive paraparesis characterized by Brown-Séquard syndrome. Surgical reduction of the hernia improves the attendant symptoms and signs, even in patients with longstanding deficits. CASE DESCRIPTION A 66-year-old female wi...
متن کاملA case of anterior spinal cord syndrome in a patient with unruptured thoracic aortic aneurysm with a mural thrombus
BACKGROUND Spinal cord infarction is an uncommon condition. Anterior cord syndrome present with paraparesis or quadriparesis with sparing of vibration and proprioceptive senses. The common causes of anterior cord syndrome are aortic dissection and aortic surgical interventions. Spontaneous unruptured nondissected aortic aneurysms with intramural thrombus can rarely cause anterior cord infarctio...
